CHARACTERISTICS
Opened in 1963 to control the flooding of the Chubut River, favor irrigation and also generate electricity, the Florentino Ameghino Dam has since become an oasis of vegetation and tranquility in the middle of the Chubut plateau.
The imposing 225-meter-long dam, the turquoise waters of the reservoir, the red sealing of volcanic rocks, the canyons and the marine sediments of other times – which can still be seen today – make the area a place special, very different from the steppe that surrounds it.
In the Dam and in the Villa Florentino Ameghino you can practice sport fishing, both from the dam and sailing the crystal clear waters. Trout, perch and native silversides are the most wanted species. The walls and rock formations also allow hiking and trekking, as well as rafting and rappelling for the most daring.
Small, charming, safe and sheltered from the winds, Villa Florentino Ameghino offers campsites, grills, river beach and guided visits to a cave where there are cave paintings.
LOCATION
